2026-04-13

The Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and dissemination of community service outcomes related to the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based history learning videos to promote the civilization of the Sriwijaya Kedatuan through the Sriwijaya Kingdom Tourism Park Museum constituted an Equity Program of Universitas Sriwijaya funded by the Indonesian Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP) in 2026. This initiative was implemented as a community engagement program aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4), namely Quality Education. The program was conducted by the History Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Sriwijaya, under the leadership of Dr. Hudaidah, M. Pd. The activities took place on Thursday and Saturday, April 2 and 4, 2026, at the Ogan Campus. Participants included 27 history teachers, from 23 teachers public senior high schools and 3 teachers from Islamic senior high schools (MAN) in Palembang City who were members of the Subject Teacher Consultation Forum (MGMP). This program represented a continuation of the 2025 community service initiative, while the 2026 phase focused on feasibility testing and product dissemination through Focus Group Discussions with experts and dissemination activities in schools.

The FGD commenced with remarks from the Vice Dean III of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Sriwijaya, responsible for Research and Community Service, Innovation and Downstreaming, Collaboration, Internationalization, and Alumni Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ratu Ilma Indra Putri, M. Si. In her address, she emphasized the importance of sustainable innovation in education. The integration of AI in the development of history learning videos was viewed as a concrete step toward strengthening digital literacy. Furthermore, she encouraged that the video products created by teachers should not remain solely as internal teaching media but should also be advanced through Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) registration as a form of recognition for innovative work, legal protection, and downstream utilization of the resulting products.

In this FGD and dissemination program, the team invited Dr. Abrar, M. Hum., a history learning media expert from Universitas Negeri Jakarta, to evaluate the instructional design and curriculum alignment of the developed media. The evaluation focused on instructional design, coherence of content presentation, synchronization among narration, visuals, and text, as well as media readability in accordance with students’ characteristics. Additionally, Dr. Abrar examined video duration effectiveness, the strength of introductory elements, and the media’s capacity to foster student engagement, ensuring that history learning materials would not appear monotonous. Through this comprehensive evaluation, the AI-based videos developed by teachers were expected not only to be visually appealing but also to fulfill the principles of communicative, systematic, and effective instructional media for classroom-based history learning.

To ensure the historical accuracy of Sriwijaya-related content, the program also involved a Sriwijaya Kedatuan subject-matter expert and museum curator, Beny Permana Putra, S.S. His role was highly strategic in assessing the accuracy of historical facts, chronological precision, terminology usage, and the authenticity of visual representations of Sriwijaya heritage presented in the videos. Through the curator’s involvement, the resulting products were expected to be not only informative but also academically legitimate in presenting the historical substance of the Sriwijaya Kedatuan.

The project leader, Dr. Hudaidah, M.Pd., presented the rationale for selecting the history of the Sriwijaya Kedatuan as the focal theme, considering its significance as the largest maritime civilization in the Indonesian archipelago. This thematic selection was based on the strategic value of Sriwijaya history in strengthening the cultural identity of students in South Sumatra, where such historical content has remained underrepresented in engaging digital media formats. Therefore, the designed videos were intended not only as instructional media but also as promotional instruments for the civilization of the Sriwijaya Kedatuan, grounded in the historical heritage preserved at the Sriwijaya Kingdom Tourism Park Museum.

In the final session, beyond academic considerations, the FGD also featured a content creator practitioner, Rillo Abyudaya, S.Pd., who evaluated the attractiveness and visual communication quality of the videos, including editing creativity, opening strength, image transition rhythm, background music selection, and overall communication effectiveness. This dimension was essential to ensure that the videos would appear more engaging, dynamic, and compatible with digital media characteristics familiar to contemporary learners.

The various recommendations obtained from experts during the FGD subsequently served as the foundation for refining the learning videos in terms of pedagogical design, historical substance, visual media quality, and the reinforcement of Sriwijaya Kedatuan’s distinctive characteristics. Following the revision stage, the improved products were introduced to users through dissemination activities conducted at Sekolah Laboratorium Universitas Sriwijaya SMA Srijaya Negara Palembang on Saturday, April 4, 2026, particularly targeting Superior Class X.1 as the initial implementation setting. Subsequently, dissemination will also be conducted by participating teachers in their respective schools as part of broader efforts to expand the utilization of innovative educational media within diverse educational environments. For example, at SMAN 10 Palembang, SMAN 18 Palembang, SMAN 20 Palembang, SMAN 21 Palembang and MAN 3 Palembang.

This initiative demonstrates that the developed innovation extends beyond academic forums and has progressed toward impactful educational practice capable of delivering more interactive, contextual, and digitally relevant history learning experiences. Moreover, the program aligns directly with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) concerning Quality Education. It represents a strategic effort to foster inclusive, relevant, and high-quality educational practices through the integration of Artificial Intelligence technology into educational processes.
