Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI) has committed to transforming itself into a world-class university (WCU) that demonstrates global competitiveness in education, research, and innovation. The WCU program serves as a strategic framework for strengthening UNSRI's academic excellence, international reputation, and global engagement. This transformation is closely supported by the EQUITY Program from LPDP funding for enhancing quality toward international university. It initiated by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemendiktisaintek), which provides mentoring, and institutional guidance for Indonesian universities aspiring to achieve international recognition.

As a concrete step toward this goal, Rektor Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI), Prof. Dr. Taufiq Marwa, SE, M.Si, officially signed the 2025 EQUITY Program contract with the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Mendiktisaintek), Prof. Brian Yuliarto, ST, M.Eng, PhD. The signing ceremony took place alongside other university rectors at Artotel Gelora Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday, August 26, 2025. This moment marked UNSRI’s formal commitment to advancing its institutional transformation under national and international higher education frameworks.

Through the WCU program, UNSRI focuses on several key areas. These include the internationalization of research and publication, by promoting collaborative research with global partners and encouraging faculty to publish in high-impact journals (Q1–Q2). The university also emphasizes the development of human resources, supporting academic mobility through postdoctoral programs, visiting professorships, and joint supervision schemes. Furthermore, UNSRI seeks to obtain international accreditation for selected study programs and to enhance its institutional visibility through global ranking systems such as QS, THE, and Webometrics.

The EQUITY Program acts as a catalyst in realizing UNSRI's WCU vision. As a national initiative, EQUITY is designed to enhance the quality and competitiveness of higher education institutions through international partnerships, capacity building, and governance improvement. Through this program, UNSRI gains access to mentorship from globally ranked universities, capacity development workshops, and international benchmarking opportunities. EQUITY also facilitates the establishment of collaborative research projects, the enhancement of institutional governance, and the alignment of academic and research practices with global standards.

The synergy between the WCU initiative and the EQUITY Program enables UNSRI to develop a comprehensive roadmap toward global recognition. This includes measurable targets in academic quality, research excellence, international collaboration, and sustainability performance. By leveraging the EQUITY Program, UNSRI strengthens its institutional capacity, enhances the global visibility of its research outputs, and positions itself as a leading research university in Indonesia and the ASEAN region.
